Biography

This profile is part of the Kirkland Name Study.

He was born in North Carolina circa 1785 and moved to Tennessee when still young.

Marriage and Children

He married Jane LONG circa 1813. Eight children[1] were born to them, likely in Marion County, Tennessee:

  • Eleanor, m. John K Long
  • Daniel, m. Elizabeth Harris
  • John, m. Polly Ann Lindley
  • Elizabeth, John Fogleman
  • Nancy, died at age 13
  • Stephen B, m. Nancy Carothers
  • Jane Catherine, m. John McFall
  • Martha Adaline, m. James McFall

The family relocated to Montgomery County, Illinois, in 1829, where Robert bought a small improvement from Ben ANDERSON at what has since been known as KIRKLAND grove. and there ...lived the rest of his long life.

After Jane's death, he married Nancy Garrison (a widow) on 7 Feb 1839 in Montgomery, Illinois.[2] Nancy Garrison had a large family. Her children and Robert's children had excessive differences making life so uncomfortable that the couple mutually agreed to separate (divorce?). Nancy Garrison and her children (with the exception of one) moved to Texas.[3]

He married Rebecca Jane Sackett on 23 Mar 1848 in Montgomery, Illinois.[4]

Burial

He is buried at the Kirkland Cemetery in Montgomery County, Illinois.[3]
