Sir Roger Kirkpatrick was the son of Sir Roger Kirkpatrick of Closeburn. He died in 1357 at Caerlaverock Castle, Dumfries-shire, Scotland, murdered in bed by Sir James Lindsay.

In 1355 he took the castles of Durisdeer and Caerlaverock from the English.
