Joshua married Martha Ruth Kittrell on May 19, 1784 in Bertie County, North Carolina.[1][2] Ruth was born about 1765 in Bertie County, North Carolina, the daughter of George Kittrell, Sr. She died July 19, 1848 in Maury County, Tennessee.
It is said that Ruth's parents died before she was very old and that Joshua went to take her to his home, which place she was reared and Joshua fell is love with her from the first time he saw her, finally marrying her.

Joshua Kittrell is thought to have died about 1835 in Granville County, North Carolina.
