Biography

Mary was born March 7, 1745 in Offenbach (Main), Hessen, Germany and christened March 8, 1745.[1][2] "She (Barbara Ann) was a daughter of John William and Mary (Klein) Swink of "Mandelay", in Fairfax County, Va., and a granddaughter of Hans Michael Swinck. The latter and his wife, Mary Elizabeth Swinck, with other members of their family embarked from Rotterdam, Holland, on the vessel "Jamaica Galley". bound for Philadelphia, February 9, 1739." [3]

  • 1790 U.S. Census: John Swink Sr. lived in Rowan, North Carolina, with one male over 16 years of age (John, 45), one male under 16 (William, age 2) and three females (Anna, age 45, Mary, age 14, and Barbara, age 7). John Swink Jr., age 17, listed separately on census.[4]
  • 1800 U.S. Census: John Swink Sr. lived in Salisbury, Rowan, North Carolina with one male 16-26, one male 45 and over (John, 55), two females 16-26 (Barbara Ann, 17 and Mary, 24), one female 45 and over, (Anna Marie, 55).
  • 1810 U.S. Census: John Swink lived in Morganton, Burke, North Carolina with three males under age 10, one male 10-15, one male over 45 (John, 65), one female under age 10, one female 10-15, one female over age 45 (Anna Marie, 65). [5]NOTE: The children may have been grandchildren, as youngest child, William, born in 1788. NOTE: Burke County was formed from Rowan County in 1777.
  • 1820 U.S. Census: John Swink lived in Burke County, North Carolina, with one male under age 10, one male 10-16, two males 16-26, one male 45 and up (John, 75), one female under 10, one female 10-16,one female 45 and up (Mary, 75), and three persons engaged in agriculture. [6]

This person has been linked incorrectly. The Anna Maria Klein who was born in Offenbach in 1745 passed away in 1747.
