Biography

The Oneida County Genweb site gives the following information under the heading for Whitestown, St. Joseph's Cemetery: "Hoffmaster, Rachel, d. March 12, 1881, wife of Frank Hoffmaster." This would appear to be an error, however; this Rachel was the daughter of Frank Hoffmeister - his wife was still listed in the 1890 Utica city directory, and I have a copy of Rachel Hoffmeister's March 1881 obituary - it is definitely for the daughter. Her mother was still living at this time, namely, at 155 Water St., as stated in her daughter's obituary.

• In the October 1860 baptism of Frank Hofmeister Jr., Theresa's son, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Utica, she was listed as "Theresiae Klein" Hofmeister. She was also listed by this name in the April 1862 baptism of her daughter Maria, and in the November 1869 baptism of her daughter Rosina. She and her husband were both living at the time of the last baptism. In the February 1874 marriage record of her daughter Anna to George Rock, she is listed as Theresa as well. In the March 1881 death record of her daughter "Theresia Hofmeister" she is mentioned as the "viduae Th. H." (the widowed Theresa Hofmeister). In the April 1882 marriage record of her daughter Mary, she is mentioned as "Theresiae Klein" Hofmeister; her husband was accurately listed as deceased at this time.
