.[1] No 1850 census record was located for William nor his parents. However, in 1860, he is in Independence Township, Washington, PA, with his parents and two of his brothers, Edmund Jasper Kline and John Rinehart Kline, Jr.[2] Family lore indicates a third brother, Winfield Kline, born in 1857. It is assumed, but not sourced, that he died before this census. By the time of the 1870 census William's two sisters have been born, Nancy Ella Kline and Della Louise Kline.[3]
William married Lou Kline in 1879.[4] The 1880 census finds the newlyweds living in Steubenville, OH. William has no occupation listed.[5] As the 1890 census records were destroyed in a fire, we have no information for those years. By the 1900 census William and Lou were living in Independence, PA, with their four sons, William Frederick Kline, Jr., John Earl Kline,[6]Paul Emerson Kline, and James Clifford Kline. William was working as a stone mason,
William was a stonemason
the trade of his father and of his son, William, Jr.[7] 1910 found the family in the same town, but William now is a contractor, whereas William, Jr., is working as a stone mason and John Earl is running the home farm. William, Jr., is married to his first wife and they are living with William, Sr., and Lou as well as the other three sons. [8] In 1920 William and Lou along with James are living in Independence, PA. William is a contractor and a stone mason.[9] By 1930 William is retired and still living in Independence, PA, with Lou and James. James is not employed.[10]
Lou died in Independence, PA, on May 31, 1936 [11], and William died in Independence, PA, in 1940.[1] Both are buried in Independence Cemetery in Independence, PA.[12][13]
