Biography

Birth Estimate

Conrad was born around 1783 in Belfast Township, Bedford County, Ohio, the son of Conrad Cline and Anna Barbara Seib. The general time period is presented on the 1850 Census.[1]

Marriage Estimate

Based on the lifelong research of Ellen McClain and Mark D. Kline, Conrad Kline married Elizabeth Wink.[2] Assigned a birth date early in 1794, the presentation on the 1820 Census seems reasonable as pertinent to both Elizabeth Wink and the general family structure.[3]Presenting three children under ten years of age suggest a marriage around 1814. No documentation has been produced to isolate the date more precisely.

Research Notes

The presentations from the 1810 Census and the 1820 Census do not work well together. 1820 seems accurate by what is known of Conrad Kline's family.[13][14] 1810 shows an older female, perhaps his mother, Anna Barbara Seib, and three children under ten years old. No record of children prior to 1810 has surfaced.

The 1810 Census presents Conrad Kline with a misspelled name or the referenced source is incorrect. Some internet presentations suggest Conrad Kline's wife's name was Elizabeth Deshong instead of Elizabeth Wink. Elizabeth Wink, born in 1794, is obviously not the mother of three children under ten years old in 1810.

Children of Conrad and Elizabeth Kline named John, Peter, Uriah, Eliza, Susan, and Sophia.[15]

Explanation of Bedford and Fulton Counties Political Divisions

Until April 19, 1850, what is now Fulton County, Pennsylvania was part of Bedford County, Pennsylvania. Belfast Township was created in 1785. Licking Creek Township was created from Belfast Township September 21, 1837.
