Child #3 Elisabeth Kling, age 19
Gertrude married Johann Maier (Major) before 1814. Their first child was born in 1815. By 1834, they had two more children.
Since her father inherited his father's estate, including the land on which they farmed, she and her husband continued to live with her parents so that the property would stay in their family. This was especially important since her father passed away in 1823 and her mother would have been left alone to handle the upkeep of their land.
Her married surname was Major, pronounced Maier. Originally [in Germany] it was pronounced and perhaps spelled Maier, but the spelling Major had been used for several generations by the time of the 1834 census.
