Biography

Judith (Babenberg) Montferrat has German Roots.

Judith of Austria "is recorded by William of Tyre as sister of Konrad III King of Germany."[1]

born late 1110s/1120[citation needed]
born 1115-00-00 Vienna Austria
Konrad and Judith are two of the 18 children of "Markgraf Leopold & his second wife", Agnes of Germany (m 1106), "widow of Friedrich von Staufen Duke of Swabia, daughter of Emperor Heinrich IV & his first wife Berthe de Savoie".[2]
Judith married, before 28 March 1133, "Marchese Guglielmo... Guglielmo di Monferrato, son of Ranieri III Marchese di Monferrato & his wife Gisèle de Bourgogne-Comté (1110-1191). He succeeded his father in [1137] as Guglielmo V 'il Vecchio' Marchese di Monferrato."[1][3]
Children of Judith and Guglielmo:
  1. "GUGLIELMO 'Longa-Espia' di Monferrato ([1135/45]-Jun 1177)" - died before his father[4]
  2. "[[[Montferrat-29|BEATRICE]]] (-bur Notre Dame de Grenoble)]" - may not have existed[5][3]
  3. "CORRADO di Monferrato ([1145/47]-murdered Tyre 28 Apr 1192)"[4]
  4. "BONIFAZIO (1150-killed in battle 4 Sep 1207)"[4]
  5. "FEDERIGO... fifth son... a bishop"[4]
  6. "RANIERI di Monferrato (1163-poisoned [19/31] Aug 1182)"[4]
  7. "AGNESE (-1202)"[4]
  8. "ALASIA (-[after 24 Jun 1231])"[4]
  9. "daughter... m (before 22 Aug 1202) Marchese ALBERTO Moro Malaspina"[4]
Judith died after 1178.[1]

Research Notes

Profile name had been "Jhutte Klosterneuburg". While Cawley cites the Continuatio Claustroneoburgensis as naming "'Iuta... fifth daughter of Liupoldus marchio Austrie" and shows Agnes of Germany (d 28 Sep 1143) as buried in Klosterneuburg, he does not show either Jhutte or Klosterneuburg as her name.[1] He shows her father as Liutpold von Babenberg.[2]

Death date: Cawley has "after 1178".[1] Datafield for a duplicate profile had January 1202 (but no source); this profile has after 1168.

Locations:

The two profiles that were merged (Babenberg-10 and Klosterneuburg-1) had different locations:
  • born Babenberg, Austria or Klosterneuburg, Austria
  • died Montferrat, France or Klosterneuburg, Niederoesterreic, Austria
Cawley does not give locations, but died in Montferrat most likely (her husband outlived her). Her mother was buried in Klosterneuburg,[1] but she was more likely born in Babenberg.

Hi! Based on Cawley's comments, I marked the relationships between Beatrix and her parents as Uncertain and her profile with "Uncertain Existence".

I've added information and links on Beatrix's profile to the profiles for Judith & Guglielmo (and a link to her profile from this one), so her profile can be detached as their daughter at this point if you wanted to.

Klosterneuburg-1 and Babenberg-10 appear to represent the same person because: Same name, spouse, year of birth. LNAB should be Babenberg.
