  • Source: S133 Media: Church Abbreviation: Necrology - Maxima Title: In Memoriam Author: Immaculate Heart of Mary Province, Monroe, CT Text: Sister M. Maxima of Our Lady of Grace, Veronica KLUGA CONT After many many years of active life in the Service of God, the soul of our dear Sister M. Maxima had been reclaimed by her Creator on Monday, 30-Jan-1967 -- just two days before her 86th birthday. CONT It was only since 22-Jan of this year, that is approximately a week before her death that Sister Maxima suddenly became extremely weak. A doctor had been summoned, and then Reverend John POLINSKY, chaplain, administered the Sacrament of the sick. sister Maxima consciously followed the Rite. She was now ready for the Lord's calling, and indeed entriely resigned to the Will of God. CONT The few days following Sister spent mostly in a resting chair complaining of nothing but admitting that she is rapidly losing her strength, so much so that can't eve pray, although she did not part with her rosary. Sister certainly had been so considerate of others especially when any service was to be rendered her. She received Holy Communion daily in the chapel, now in a wheel chair. This was her wish so as not to impose upon the chaplin. CONT Late in the evening on 29-Jan, Mother Superior before retiring visited Sister to make sure that all was well. Sister Maxima siad she need nothing, and then added that she really wants Our Lord to take her because she is the cause of so much concern in every way, which she does not deserve. After some time Mother Suprior left Sister without realizing that the next morning she would be gone. CONT At about seven o'clock in the morning the sister in charge entered Sister Maxima's room as usual to give here a helping hand before wheeling her into the chapel. Here she noticed that SIster's one and only wish had been fulfilled. She had just left this life simply and peacefully for a better one -- to partake in the Beatific Vision. The Chaplain gave Sister the last Absolution. During the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass which followed immediately, there is no doubt, that all prayers were reaching out to the Merciful Lord for the soul of their beloved Sister. CONT Sister Maxima was born in Poland. At the age of 17 she entered Nazareth from the Sacred Hearts of Jesus and Mary Parish in Scranton, PA. The initial training in religious life Sister received in the Sacred Heart Province in Chicago where she pronounced her first Profession in 1900, and her Final Vows in 1907. CONT For over fifty years Sister had directed, guided and taught the little ones entrusted to her care in various schools, at first in St. Adalbert and St. Michael Schools in Chicago, then in schools in the Provinces of the Immaculate Conception BVM and the Immaculate Heart of Mary. Her understanding, charity and gentleness toward the little hearts and little minds undoutedly endeared here to our Lord. CONT Since 1960 Sister had been released from teaching in schools and assigned to our convent connected with SS. Cyril and Methodius Parish, where she busied herself with giving a helping had wherever she was able to. CONT During transfer time in Aug-1965 Sister Maxima was assigned to the new provincial house at Marian Heights. It was not until December that the Senior Sister's section was ready for occupancy. From then on, sister spent her last in perfect peace and quite. CONT The funeral services for sister Maxima held in the provincial house in Monroe were well attended. The translation of the Remains from the parlor to the chapel on 31-Jan was presided by reverend John POLINSKY, Marian Heights chaplain. Twelve other priests and a number of Sisters from our neighboring convents joined in chanting of the Office of the Dead. Following, the Rosary for the repose of the soul fo Sister Maxima was said in common. CONT Unfortunately Sister M. Sebastian, Sister Maxima's sister was not able to attend the funeral. For some time now she herself is a patient in the infirmary connected with Nazareth Hospital in Philadelphia. When notified of Sister's death, she apologized and said she could be only in spirit and prayer with us during these funeral services. CONT The Funeral Max was held on Wednesday, 1-Feb, at 9:30am. the Reverend Chaplain was celbrant of the Mass. He was then assisted by Rev. John REDZIMSKI, CM and Reverend Francis KUBA< CP in reading the Committal while the Novitiate Choir rendered the responses. CONT The Remains of Sister were then followed by Father POLINKSI, Father KUBA, her niece and a group of Sisters to St. Michael's cemetery in Stratford where the burial prayers and blessing took place. The "Salve Regina" intoned and sung by the Sisters at the cemetery was the final act of a loving farewell to our beloved Sister. CONT It is fitting and proper to add here that SIster Maxima was an example of charity, that all the sisters knew and loved. She was a simple and good natured soul. In spite of her advanced age, she glowed always with sweetness and joy. Her union with Christ was surely the source of her smile and of her pleasantness. Her often expressed desire for heaven ... for eternity tells us that she, like the wise virgins had her lamp trimmed while she awaited her Bridegroom. Sister Maxima will belong remembered by our Sisters here for her deep respect for authority and for her love and interest in our Community life. CONT May the Good Lord grant her peace eternal. Sebastian of the Love of Mary (barbara KLUGA - died 6-Dec-1968) Author: Immaculate Conception Province, Philadelphia, PA Text: Surely goodness and kindness shall follow me all the days of my life: I will dwell in the house of the Lord for ever and ever more. CONT Sister Sebastian, a very brilliant individual, was born in Poland and entered religious life in Scranton, PA on 9-Jul-1897. Sister had her novitiate in Des Plainse, IL, but spent most of her convent life as a teacher in the Immaculate Conception Province. CONT Sister was excellent in teaching, particularly in English. Sister was also involved in the translating of the conferences of Mother Foundress. As an artist and painter, the work Sister accomplished was performed with meticulous care. the same could be said about whatever Sister was given to do. CONT Many people could rembmer Sioster for her kindness and her attempts to please. She was a "lady" to all who had any dealings with her. CONT Sister's keen memory, despite illness, enabled her to relate and reveal incidents and events of the past, both interesting and captivating to the listner. If these could have been recorded, there would have been a volume of innumberable facts and stories about Nazareth. CONT Sister was spontaneous and frequently used quotes and aspirations during her conversations. The most common of all of her sayings was "all for the greater glory of God." CONT As age was approaching, Sister became the victim of eccentric behaviour to some degree. Her faith remained the strongest part of her person. Sister had to slowly give in to weakness and finally when her Master called, she was ready to leave her valley of suffering on 6-Dec-1968. God had given Sister 84 years to serve Him and for this the reqard of heaven must be ecstatic. CONT May she rest in peace! Italicized: Y Paranthetical: Y
