Biography

Given name is Oleanda in 1900, Helen in 1910, then Ellen thereafter. She was a family friend and next-door neighbor, and we never knew her as anything other than Ellen Hall.

From The Morning Journal, Lorain, Ohio, Tuesday, October 12, 1993:

Ellen C. Hall, ran nursing home Avon Lake - Ellen C. Hall (née Klundt), 94, of Avon, died Sunday, October 10, 1993, at Good Samaritan Nursing Home, Avon, after a long illness. She was born November 30, 1898, in Nora, Neb., and lived in various parts of the country, including Aurora, Ill., Avon Lake, Cleveland, Vermilion and Avon. Mrs. Hall formerly owned and operated Hall Nursing Home, Vermilion. While living in Cleveland, she and her husband, Louis A., owned and operated a deli in the downtown area. In the days of silent motion pictures, she played piano in the movie theaters in Chicago, and volunteered with the American Red Cross as a lifeguard in the Water Safety Program. She was a member of Avon Lake United Church of Christ and the Avon Lake Chapter 557 Order of Eastern Star. Nursing was her profession, prior to operating the nursing home. Survivors include a sister, Esther Griff of Muskegon, Mich. She was preceded in death by her husband, Louis; sisters Sarah, Martha and Edith; and several brothers. Friends will be received Friday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the Burmeister-Busch Family Chapel, 163 Avon Belden Road, Avon Lake, where Eastern Star Services will be conducted at 3:30p.m. Funeral services are tentatively scheduled for Saturday at a time to be announced. Burial will be in Lakeview Cemetery, Cleveland. Contributions may be made to the Avon Lake Church of Christ, 32801 Electric Blvd., Avon Lake, or the Avon Lake Chapter Order of Eastern Star.
