Leonard was born in 1843 to parents Myron E. Knapp and Amanda M. Hall. He became an M.D. in the Flint Michigan area as did his son Mark Stevens Knapp.
He married twice:
He passed away in 1911 in Fenton, Genesee, Michigan after retiring from practice.[3]
He and his first wife Melissa Stevens were honored by his grand-daughter Neva Elinor Knapp by the naming of her fraternal twins in 1933: Mellissa Neva Smith and Leonard Knapp Smith.
