Biography

It's unclear with the resources I currently have whether Mary is older or younger than her brother Charles Joseph. At the time of the 1900 census, 16-year-old Mary E. was living with her parents and seven siblings in Montgomery County, GA. She could read and write, and she was attending school. According to the census, she was born in Georgia in November of 1883. ^[1] Mary's father died in 1906. Mary E. married Sibley John Clark on May 7, 1908 in Montgomery County, GA. ^[2] However, at the time of the 1910 census, 26-year-old Mary was living with her widowed mother and seven siblings in Montgomery County, GA. Mary was listed as single in this census. ^[3] At the time of the 1920 census, 35-year-old Mary was living with her husband and their three young sons in Montgomery County, GA. Their 7-year-old, John Schley, was attending school. ^[4] At the time of the 1930 census, 44-year-old Mary was living with her husband, their four sons, and her widowed mother in Montgomery County, GA. According to the census, Mary married Sibley when she was 24 years old. ^[5] At the time of the 1940 census, 56-year-old Mary was living with her husband, two of their sons, and a daughter-in-law in Montgomery County, GA. According to the census, the highest level of education that Mary completed was her fourth year of high school. ^[6] Mary died in 1969. ^[7]
