Biography

Alfred Knight was born in 1870 in Ashby De La Zouch, Leicestershire, England to Mark Knight and Emily (Taylor) Knight. His birth was registered in Ashby De La Zouch in the first quarter of the year, with mother's maiden name Taylor.[1]

In 1871 Alfred Knight (age 1) lived in Ashby de la Zouch with his father Mark (29, Upholsterer & Paper Hanger), mother Emily (27), and three siblings: Ruth E (7, Scholar), Lydia T (5, Scholar), and William A (3, Scholar).[2]

Alfred Knight, son of Mark & Emily, was christened on 29 Dec 1872 at St Mary de Castro in Leicester, Leicestershire.[3] His younger brother Arthur Edward Knight was christened on the same day.

In 1881 Alfred Knight (age 11, Scholar) lived at Chatham St in Leicester St Margaret with his father Mark (39, Upholsterer & Paperhanger), mother Emily (37, Upholsteress), and six siblings: Ruth E (17, Shoe Machinist), Lydia A (15, Tailoress), Arthur E (8, Scholar), Edward (6, Scholar), Dinah M (3, Scholar), and Daniel (1).[4]

In 1891 Alfred Knight (age 21, Upholsterer) lived at Chatham Street in Leicester with his father Mark (49, Upholsterer), mother Emily (47, Upholsterer), and seven siblings: Ruth E (27, Shoe Machinist), Edward (16, Upholsterer), Dinah (13, Scholar), Daniel (11, Scholar), Edith (7, Scholar), Emily (5, Scholar), and Florence (1).[5]

Alfred Knight married Mary Ann Hodgkin in 1891. The marriage was registered in Leicester in the last quarter of the year.[6]

Alfred and Mary had four children:

  1. Agnes Gertrude (Knight) Bowles (1891-1983)
  2. Emily Elsie Knight (1893-1977)
  3. Evelyn May (Knight) Brewin (1895-1966)
  4. Mark Frederick William Knight (1899-1976)

In 1901 Alfred Knight (age 31, Upholsterer & Furniture Dealer) lived in Leicester with his wife Mary A (31) and four children: Agnes G (9), Emily E (7), Everlin M (5), and Mark F (1).[7]

In 1911 Alfred Knight (age 41, Upholsterer) lived in Leicester with his wife Mary Ann (41) and four children: Agnes Gertrude (19, Hosiery Fancy Machinist), Mily Elsie (17, Hosiery Fancy Machinist), Evelin May (15, Hosiery Fancy Machinist), and Mark Frederick William (11, School Boy).[8]

Alfred Knight passed away in 1911, aged 41 years. His death was registered in Leicester in the last quarter of the year.[9]
