Biography

Albert was killed in action WW1 Battle of Passchendaele, Belgium While overseas he corresponded with family at home which included two post cards. The exact wording on the post cards as follows.


On Active Service In France June Dear Sister Gertie, Your most Welcome P. C. Came safely to hand today also Flora’s. Father’s and ……Miss G. Knight…………. Mother’s letters & very pleased to receive them but the papers & books have not … … 29.Norma.St………….. yet arrived perhaps they will be delivered tomorrow I have given you all the news ……West Adelaide………….. In the letters that I have wrote from this place so with my very best love to you all at home I remain your loving …Sth Australia………. brother Bert. xxxxxx

Dear Sister Gertie Your most welcome Post card came safely to hand a couple of days ago & it is a very pretty card and I hope to hear from you as often as you Like, now Gertie you must do all you can for Mother at home you must not refuse to do anything for her & when I come home I hope to hear good news of you.This place is very pretty in some places & in others again it is very dirty and the smell is not too good

But for all that I am having a good time plenty of fun while it lasts but I am waiting patiently to get into the firing line as we know as soon as we get there the better chance one has of getting home to you all the quicker & do not care how soon we are posted off to the front, it may be some time yet This is all the news for the time being So with my best love to you all. .
