Brigadier General John George David Knight U.S.A. retired and since July 16, 1917 Engineering Commissioner of the District of Columbia, died last night at Fair Oaks Sanitarium, Summit, N.J. after an illness of some weeks. Born in England Jan. 24, 1846, he was appointed from Missouri to the Military Academy at West Point and was graduated in 1868. General Knight was chief of staff to General Wood in the Philippines and was promoted to Brigadier General on Nov. 30, 1909, just before he was retired by operation of law. Since then he had make his home in Summit, until this country became involved in the world war, when he offered his services to the Government. He leaves a widow and two daughters who were with him when he died. NYT 10 Jun 1919
