Biography
Roby was born in 1769. She was the daughter of Benjamin Knight and Dorcas Fiske. She passed away in 1855.
Roby (Knight) Whitman was the daughter of Benjamin Knight, an innkeeper in Cranston. When General Lafayette was passing through Rhode Island, he stopped at her father's inn, and observing Roby, a girl in her teens and remarkably pretty, gave her a snuff box as a souvenir.
