Biography

OBITUARY: Our Papa, Norman Clifton Knight, is resting in the arms of Jesus since passing into His presence April 23, 2021. He was born in Necessity, Texas, on July 7, 1932 to Henry Clinton Knight and Maudie Del (Smith) Knight. He married the love of his life in 1950, Nancy Lee Harrison. With over 65 years of marriage, Norman and Nancy joined 12 couples among their siblings and parents that attained a Golden Anniversary together, and it is certain that their Heavenly reunion was a glorious event that caught the attention of even the most stoic of angels.

He is survived by his five children, Jack Knight (Pam), Clifton Knight (Billie), Clayton Knight, Jeff Knight (Yvonne), and Shawna Brown (David). Norman was preceded in death by his wife, Nancy; his parents; one brother, James Nolan Knight; and a grandson, Jackie Dean Knight Jr.

In addition to his children, Papa will be deeply missed by his fourteen grandchildren, twenty great-grandchildren, one great-great-granddaughter, numerous nieces, nephews and many very special friends.

Norman and Nancy went with their mothers to the Dona Ana County courthouse in 1950 to be married by the Justice of the Peace. Some rule required that the fathers sign for them since Norman was only seventeen and Nancy was just fifteen. Undeterred, the group drove to Juarez, Mexico and were married there by a Mexican judge (their marriage license is in Spanish).

Norman was a truck driver all of his adult life. He was considered one of the very best at spotting mobile homes and also transported hay, firewood, equipment, lumber, and anything else that could be loaded onto a semi-trailer.

Following the example of his father, Norman showed his family how to practice an active, living relationship with our Savior Jesus Christ. He supported his church family and its leadership prayerfully, financially, and faithfully.

Norman made a difference in many lives, whether by his help, through his compassion, or by his unwavering support. He will be missed.
