Emma was the daughter of Richard C. Knight and Sarah Ann Wimberly of Chesterfield County, S.C. Emma spent her childhood years in Sumter County Alabama with her parents and five sisters.
Emma is a direct descendant of Rev. Aaron Knight the founder of Fork Creek United Methodist Church in Chesterfield County South Carolina, said to be the first United Methodist church in South Carolina.
Emma W. Knight and John Bethel Roberts were united in Matrimony on the 14 Dec. 1876 in Lauderdale County, Ms. They were the parents of eleven children, of these eleven children ten lived to be adults.
Emma & John's son, John Ed, became a UMC clergyman and several of their grandsons and great grandsons have followed suit.
Emma and John lived in Lauderdale County Mississippi for about 10 years, then they relocated to Kemper County where they lived and raised their children. In the later years of their life they made their home in Neshoba County Mississippi near several of their married children. John & Emma were members of New Hope Methodist church in Neshoba County, Ms
John's death occurred one month and 3 days prior to his and Emma's 50th wedding anniversary.

Mrs. J. B. Roberts, age 79, died at the home of her son-in-law and daughter, Mr & Mrs. J. M. Williams in .the-Shady Grove Community, on May 11, 1939, from the infirmaties of old age. She was widely-known, a devoted christian. and a faithful member of New Hope Methodist church.
