Biography

Research Notes

Found an Ancestry.com tree that lists John David Carter Knight as the Father of William C Knight, the husband of Mary Carter, and the son of John Knight and Isabell Carter. However, the birth/death dates are 1738-1786. (Howard Family Tree; myraking71=owner; Ancestry Profile) Tiedeman-60

Removing marriage to Mary (Carter) Knight (1737-) before 1755 in Bertie, Province of North Carolina as she appears properly married to John Carter Knight (1735-abt.1783) since this John is from Orange county and that John better fits getting married in Bertie county. Similarly, removing parents John Knight (1712-bef.1770) and Isabell (Carter) Knight (1714-1770) as they better fit John Carter Knight (1735-abt.1783).

Adding hypothesized brother David Knight who is also tied to Orange County and whose other descendants have DNA matches to support the connection.

Orange County was formed in 1752 from parts of Bladen, Granville, and Johnston Counties. Since there are records from Granville for the Knight, surname, using Granville as birth location instead of Orange in 1733.
