Augustus E Knoderer was born on 4 Aug 1798 in Strasbourg, Bas-Rhin, Alsace, France.[1][2][3][4][5][6][7] His parents were Charles Knoderer and Anne Murr He was married twice; first to Maria Nagel[8] in 1820 in York, Pennsylvania, USA and then in 1835 to Leah Swartz[3][4][5] also in York, Pennsylvania, USA. By 1837 they had moved to Columbus, Franklin, Ohio, USA.[1] Augustus and Maria had 9 children; Charles Karl b1821, Benjamin b1823, Henry b1825, Rebeka b1826, Louisa b1828, William b1829, Sarah b1831, Lydia b1833, Mary b1835. Augustus and Leah had three children; Augustus Jr. b1837,[3]Edward b1839,[3] and Katarina b1840.[3] Augustus died at his home in Mifflin Township in 1881[1][7] He is buried in the Old Peace Lutheran Cemetery in Downtown Gahanna, Ohio.[9]

"Augustus Knoderer, one of the early settlers of this city, died yesterday, aged 83 years, at his home in Mifflin township. He was formerly engaged in the business of tanning and glue in this city, having come to Columbus in 1837."
