NOTE: This profile is being protected by the Puritan Great Migration Project. Although this William Knopp did not emigrate to America, he is the progenitor of many Knopps/Knapps in America. His parents are not known. In order to ensure that the spelling of his name is preserved during merges, and to ensure that parents are not added without collaboration, the PPP has been added.
This man (married in 1584 to Elizabeth Reade) has been confused with other men named William Knapp or William Knop. He should not be confused with the William Knopp, 1580-1658, son of Thomas Knopp and Alice Howlat, who married Judith Tue and Priscilla Akers.
The origins of this William Knopp are not known, but various publications have identified him as the son of a John Knapp and Martha Blois or the son of Robert Knapp and Margaret Poley. There is no evidence for either of these sets of parents.
Five children were born to the marriage of William Knopp and Elizabeth Reade, all in Bures St. Mary, Suffolk:
William died before 4 October 1640 when his widow was buried at Bures St Mary, Suffolk, England.

I have edited Knopp-24 so the sources will appear. I see that the parents displayed Knopp-24 do not match the text of the biography. Therefore I will change the proposed merge to an unmerged match.
