James was born in 1889. He is the son of James Knowles and Nina Albury.James was 5'10", brown eyes, fair complexion, black hair and by 41 years, was starting to gray. He immigrated to Michigan, USA on May 17, 1930, arriving in Detroit, Wayne County, MI. He came alone, declared he'd been in the US during August and September of 1908, landing in New York City. He arrived September 28, 1908 at Ellis Island, a single 19 year old clerk visiting for the first time. He claimed his nationality as British. His sister, Miss C A Knowles at Flower Hospital on 63rd St was his arrival contact and destination in New York. He listed his uncle, Mr C E Albury as his departure contact back in the Bahamas. He brought $50 for the trip.[1]
His purpose for migrating in 1930 was to join his wife, Muriel E Knowles who lived at 3310 Rochester Ave, Detroit, as a permanent resident. He listed his Uncle, G.A. Albury on Union St. Nassau Bahamas as nearest relative from back home.
Apparently James didn't stay in the US. He had a visit visa dated shortly before his death, July 27, 1943.[2] He passed away in 1943 in Michigan.[1]
