Biography

Thomas Knowton III was born on 11 May 1670 in Ipswich, Essex, Province of Massachusetts Bay.[1][2]

Birth

11 May 1670 in Ipswich, Essex, Province of Massachusetts Bay

Property

  • 2 July 1692 (Ipswich, Essex Co., Massachusetts Bay) Receives from his father, Thomas, a bequest of a portion of his house in a document. Stocking calls this his "will" and has only a very brief transcription; needs additional research.[3]

Marriage

  • ca. 1693 (Ipswich, Essex Co., Massachusetts) to Mercy (d. 1694)[2]
  • ca. 1698 (Ipswich, Essex Co, or Norwich, CT) to Susannah ?[4]

Residence

  • 1698 (Norwich, New London, CT). Thomas probably moved to Norwich with his father when his father sold the family home and land in Ipswich.
  • 1705 (East Haddam, Middlesex, Connecticut) Purchased a farm in East Haddam[2]

Military Service

  • 1706 (East Haddam, Middlesex Co., CT) Commissioned as a military officer (lieutenant) of the train brand at Haddam on the east side of the river.[5]

Other

  • Agreement (12 Mar 1699, Ipswich, Essex Co., MA). Thomas and his wife Susannah are named in a document which appears to be some kind of agreement with John Califfe who had purchased Thomas' father's Thomas' house and land in 1698.

Death

  • 25 Sep 1730 (East Haddam, Middlesex, Connecticut). Probate Place: Hartford, CT.[4][6]
  • Stocking gives this Thomas a 3rd wife, Sarah Benjamin, but there is no wife Sarah mentioned in his will; only Susannah.
