Notes - DNA
Thomas McGill and Naomi Knox would be my 5th great grandparents.
Her name is also shown as Sarah or Margaret, possibly a middle name. There is already another Sarah Knox who married James Barkley from this family. I believe that despite the lack of primary sources and documentation Naomi Knox is from the family of Capt. William Knox and Margaret Allen. I believe this for several reasons. Knox families were very large with 10 children or more, and not all children were accounted for in records, especially the females. Thomas McGill was from Lincoln, North Carolina, very close to Rowan, North Carolina. Thomas' wife would be a Knox because they chose 'Knox' as their son's middle name, John Knox McGill, husband of Elizabeth McGuire, a naming convention taking the mother's maiden name, in use at that time. Most importantly, I have a DNA match through Ancestry DNA with a cousin from the Jean Knox - John Barclay(Barkley) family line which is a well sourced and documented line descending directly from Capt. William Knox and Margaret Allen. I can find no other names I have in common on this cousin's tree other than William Knox and Margaret Allen. I share 12 cM across 2 DNA segments. Confidence: Moderate.
Note: This is simply a Confident level and not DNA Confirmation level which would require triangulation.
UPDATE: This is the third time I have a cousin match to William Knox and Margaret Allen with a 12.3 cM on 1 Segment with my LivingDNA Genesis using GEDmatch.
