Chien Liung's family was closely linked to the Canadian missionary George Leslie McKay as workers in the church as well as through marriage. (Lang Ko's first cousin married one of McKay's daughters.) Christian faith was strong in the household of Chien Liung and his wife Chien Chin Wang. They had twelve children together.
Chien Liung loved his studies and became a doctor. He ran his clinic for many years out of the ground floor of the family home. In addition to his medical practice, Chien Liung was active in helping with the Happy Mount Leprosy Colony and served on their board of directors.
