Leona Suddarth Funeral Services Held Dec. 27
Leona Teltschik Suddarth of Houston died Monday, Dec. 22, at the age of 82.
She was born into the Witting Community near Moulton in Lavaca County on March 27, 1921, one of six children born to Hulda and Henry Koch.
Due to her father's untimely death in 1926, the young and talented Leona was adopted into the Koehler family by Mrs. Henry Koehler of Weimar.
There she completed elementary school, took piano and voice lessons, later graduating from Weimar Public High School.
Her voice lessons would prove to be a Godsend for the Weimar community as she shared her talent every Sunday in the Lutheran Church choir and soon became one of the most popular soloists in the area at weddings, funerals and other special occasions.
On Sept. 21, 1940, she married Erwin Teltschik, a Weimar business owner, and from this marriage came two sons, Erwin Jr. and David.
In 1957, another untimely death would pay Leona a visit, this time her husband, Erwin.
Forced to enter the business world to support her family, she accepted a position at Hill Bank and Trust in Weimar until 1964, when she then moved to Houston to be with her sons attending the University of Houston.
Remaining in Houston she spent most of her restaurant career working for Frank Vargo at the Black Angus Restaurant.
Leona would marry again, spending many enjoyable years with her husband John Allan Suddarth until his death in 1993.
Leona loved to decorate for Christmas and this year was no exception as she once again won her neighborhood Christmas lighting contest.
She is survived by two sons, Erwin Teltschik and wife Diane, and David Teltschik; one grandson, Greg; one granddaughter, Mellissa Bowman and husband Matt; great-granddaughter, Kaitlin; one brother, Milton Koch; and one sister, Evelyn Lehnert.
Funeral services were held Saturday, Dec. 27, at Earthman Bellaire Chapel in Bellaire.
Interment followed at the Weimar Masonic Cemetery in Weimar.
She will be missed by many who loved her. Weimar Mercury, January 1, 2004
