Biography

Adelaide Koch Reynolds was born in Pittsburgh, PA. Her father, Richard Koch, was reportedly a salesman of hats used by coal miners, with lights on them. At some point in the 1920s, the Koch family moved from Pittsburgh to Warwick, Rhode Island, where Adelaide's mother Emma was from. While in Rhode Island, Adelaide met Paul Ripley Reynolds (1912-2008), whom she married in 1942. The Reynolds had three children: Patricia Low Reynolds, Carla Whittlesey Reynolds, and David Spencer Reynolds. The family settled in Barrington, Rhode Island, living first at 97 Ferry Lane and then at the Lighthouse on Nayatt Point in West Barrington. Adelaide Reynolds was an artist. She taught briefly at Rhode Island School of Design, and then taught art classes at home in the Lighthouse. She also drew art for greeting cards and newspaper ads. Paul and Adelaide Reynolds were Christian Scientists. Adelaide passed on in the Lighthouse on February 1, 1972. She is interred in the Swan Point Cemetery in Providence, Rhode Island.
