Johannes Koch was born in Bavaria in 1814. He was the son of Nicolaus Koch and Maria Becker of Frankelbach.
Johannes Koch was married to Anna Maria Schehr on March 17, 1838 at Frankelbach, Germany.[1] Their marriage was also recorded in nearby Rothselberg.[2] It is through the marriage record index that their birth dates and parents' names are found:
Marriage Record of Johannes Koch and Anna Maria Schehr
John and Anna Koch were the parents of the following known children:
John and Anna Maria Schehr Koch immigrated to America circa 1845. Their daughter Elisabetha Koch was baptized in March of 1845 at Rothselberg, Bavaria. Another daughter, Christina Koch Bollenbacher, told her family that she came to America at the age of two. Christina was born in November of 1842, so possibly the family came in the spring or summer of 1845. Their specific immigration records have not been discovered yet.
Once the Koch family arrived in the United States, they headed west into Ohio. They briefly settled in Butler County, Ohio, where more children were born. They continued their westward migration. Eventually, they made their home in rural Mercer County, Ohio. There was a large settlement of German immigrants there at that time. This was on the Ohio and Indiana state line.
John Koch died in Liberty Township, Mercer County, Ohio in 1892.[10] He is buried at the Saint Paul United Church of Christ cemetery south of Rockford off of State Route 118.[11]
