Leo was in the US Navy from 1 Feb 1943 to 27 Nov 1946.[4] The family lore is that he commanded a small ship in the Pacific during the war.
He married his second wife, Shirley Jane Miller, on 30 January 1944 in Norfolk, Virginia, United States.[5]
Leo died (age 66) on 14 November 1982 in Los Angeles.[6] Ironically, he had a heart attack while playing tennis with his brother, Dick, who was a physician. He died on the tennis court.

This was my uncle. He was quite a guy. Had a PhD in botany and was fired from the University of Illinois in the late 50s for advocating free love, so he dropped out and turned on. He taught at a Summerhil-style school in New York called Collaberg in the late 60s / early 70s. Loved puns. His father was Val Koch. I’m having lunch with his daughter (my cousin) this weekend and am hoping to learn more details about his life.
