Biography

Little is known about Etta (Cook) Wohlgehagen, other than that her first marriage was to a man named Rosacker and that her second was to Henry A. Wohlgehagen. She had children by both husbands, then died in Germany. After her death, Henry brought their son Fred T. Wohlgehagen and his half brother to the U.S.

I spoke to a Rosacker Descendant about 20 years ago who lived in New Mexico. His name was Mark, and last name might have been Rosacker. He told me this: Etta/Ida was living in what is now Silver Lake, Kansas when she died. Her son, August "Gus" Rosacker, was working for a man called "The Cattle King of Kansas" there. When she passed, there was no cemetery nearby, so the Cattle King allowed her to be buried under the "big tree". Mark told me that in the 80s some of his family members went back and actually placed a headstone for her under the tree. When I went to check out this information 20 years ago, I was able to find the story in an online history by searching for Rosacker. There was a very detailed account of where the "big tree" was. I can't seem to find that history online now, and my records are all in storage in another state. I will post more when I get to my records. - Michelle Banks
