Husband of Former Resident Succumbs
George Koch, 82, of Shanesville, a retired blacksmith formerly of Blissville, passed away Friday night, May 2, at 12 o’clock, in his home following a long illness.
He was born in Tuscarawas county, a son of William and Mary Koch. In 1887 he was married to Cora Ann Penrod, who passed away in 1922. He and his wife moved in 1894 from Tuscarawas county to Blissfield, where he was a blacksmith for 32 years. After his wife’s death, he moved to Shanesville.
In 1929 he was married to Mrs. Rhoda Severns, who survives. Also surviving are two children by the former marriage, Harlan C. Koch, a member of the University of Michigan faculty, and Mrs. E. H. Sproull, of Coshocton; five stepchildren, Mrs. Arden Swope and Floyd Severns, both of Dresden; Ralph Severns of Trinway; Lewis Severns, of Cuyahoga Falls, and Mrs. Carl Lacy, of Conesville; four sisters, Mrs. James Baker, of Dover; Miss Wilhelmina Koch, Mrs. Robert Penrod, and Mrs. Alma Wilhelm, of Coshocton, and Mrs. J. Dickerson, of Toledo; four grandchildren, 13 step-grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m. Monday in the Everhart funeral home at Shanesville, with Rev. Otto Moore of the Evangelical and Reformed church officiating. Burial was made in the Blissfield cemetery.[1]
