The 1940 Census shows Joe at the age of 71 living as the head of household. Only his son Harry was living with him, aged 29 and single. Joe had only a 2nd grade education. Harry had a 5th grade education. this was a rented house in Addison Township. Harry worked as a farm laborer.[7]

Harry Albert Kohl, born 1910[8] and died 18 Aug 1985.[9]
Freda Kohl, born 1912[10] She later married Herbert Radke who died in 1982.
Joseph died on 1 Oct 1946 Washington County, Wisconsin. Buried at Union Cemetery, Village of Slinger, Wisconsin. [12]
