Obituary

Conrad L. "Conny" Kohler, 89, of Shrewsbury, died Sunday, December 16th in the UMass Medical Center- University Campus after being stricken ill at home at Southgate in Shrewsbury.

Mr. Kohler was born in Vienna, Austria, January 3, 1918. He leaves his wife, Ellena and several cousins.

Conny served in the U.S. Army 10th Mountain Division Ski Troops during World War II and was in action in Italy. He served as an intelligence analyst and translator with the United States Forces in Austria (USFA) and met his wife, Ellena, who also was a USA veteran and employed with USFA.

In 1955, they transferred to State Department and Conny became the Chief of the Refugee Relief Program from 1955 until 1957. They then returned to Massachusetts and Conny became a Scholarship Officer with the Board of Higher Education until 1984. He retired from that post to accept a position with Tufts University as the Coordinator of Parent Financing Programs from 1985-1993.

Conny held both a B.S. and M.S. Degree in Business Administration from Northeastern University. Since his birth in Austria, Conny was a skier his entire life. He also liked playing tennis and adored classical music and found time to volunteer at the Worcester Ecotarium.

A Celebration of Conny's life will be held on Thursday, January 3rd, 2008 at 11 A.M. in the Chapel at Southgate, with a reception to follow in the Saratoga Lounge, 40 Julio Drive, Shrewsbury.
