Biography

Karl Kollwitz, husband of the German artist Käthe Kollwitz, was born in 1863, he died in 1940.

Karl Kollwitz led his practice as a doctor for the poor. In 1913, the Social Democratic Chamber of Physicians founded Ernst Simmel and Ignaz Zadek. He was a member of the Youth Relief Committee in the Berlin district of Prenzlauer Berg and in the German League for Human Rights. After the German November Revolution of 1919, he became active as a city councilor of the SPD in the Berlin municipal politics and as a member of the International Socialist Kampfbund.
