Biography

Eli H. Koontz was born in Rockingham County, Virginia 1817, son of Philip Koontz and Elizabeth Koontz, married Harriet Conrad in 1840 and lived in the "Mountain Valley" section of Rockingham County, where he acquired a major portion of the land that once belonged to his grandfather, Philip Koontz, after many of the heirs moved west. Eli was the family member many turned to for legal business. He served as administrator of the estate of his grandfather, Philip, (1842), acted as power of attorney for many of his relatives who moved west, was executor of his uncle John Koontz's will (1852) administrator of his brother, Peter's will (1861)and served as guardian for a number of children. Eli Koontz died in 1864, only 47 years old.
