Dominik Kopias was born on August 3, 1855, in Ślądkowice in Dłutów parish in Poland[1]. His parents were Józef Kopias and Justyna born Osińska. His father was a farmer and a Schultheiß (sołtys) in Ślądkowice.
He was baptized the next day, on August 4. The witnesses were Antoni Mendak, aged 40, and Roch Strachoski, aged 36, farmers from Ślądkowice. The ceremony was led by rev. Stanisław Tański. The godparents were Antoni Mendak and Julianna Parteka.
Dominik Kopias married Marianna Bartuzel from Mogilno in Dobroń parish, daughter of Jakub Bartuzel and Marianna born Nowak, on October 29, 1890, in Dobroń, Poland[2]. The witnesses were Józef Madej, aged 42, and Wawrzyniec Bartuzel, aged 38, farmers from Mogilno.
It was a double in-law marriage, because Marianna's brother Stanisław Bartuzel married Dominik's half-sister Tekla Kopias[3].
