Perhaps suffering hardship due to the Great Depression, before 1935 the family moved to a rented a home in Hellam Township, York County.[3] By 1940, the household there encompassed Joseph (age 45, tenant farmer), Nettie (46), Gerald (25, farmhand) and Mardine Kraft (20, new worker), as well as a farmhand named John Zepp (40).[3] The record shows that Joseph and Nettie had each completed eight years of formal education; Gerald, his freshman year of high school and Mardine, her sophomore year.[3]
Obituary (17 November 2006) SHREWSBURY S. Mardine (Kraft) Rineholt, 86, died Wednesday, November 15, 2006, at Barbara Egan Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. She was the wife of the late Samuel R. Rineholt. A funeral service will be held 10 a.m. Monday, November 20, 2006, at Olewiler and Heffner Funeral Home, Inc., 35 Gotham Place, Red Lion. Burial will be held in Round Hill Presbyterian Cemetery. . . .Mrs. Rineholt was born January 9, 1920, in York, the daughter of the late Joseph H. and Sarah Q. (Dubbs) Kraft. She was a loving and dedicated homemaker for her husband, daughters, son, and grandchildren. Mardine was a member of AARP. . . .Her son, Robert J. Rineholt preceded her in death.
