Biography
Neyritje (aka Metje) was baptized in Sleepy Hollow Reformed Church, on June 4, 1705, daughter of Jan Krankheyt & wife Grietje. Witnesses were Theunis Krankheyt [Jan’s brother] and Mettje Wickelen [Grietje’s sister].
On August 7, 1731 Metje married Hendrick Van Tassel, son of Cornelis Van Tassel (born 1668) and Antije Storm (born ca 1670),
Metjie and Hendrick lived on the manor of Cortlandt, but later moved to Fishkill, Dutchess Co., NY where they both joined the Reform Church. Hendrick was a church officer and his name appears on a list of Freeholders in 1740. He owned land and left a will that was not probated but refers to subsequent deeds by his sons.
Children of Metjie and Hendrick are:
- Margriet Van Tassel, born 1733;
- Aeltie Van Tassel, born 1735;
- Hendrick Van Tassel (1736-1827)
- Metje Van Tassel (1738-29 Dec 1771)
- Johannis Van Tassel, born 1741
- Marya Van Tassel, born 1743
- Jacob Van Tassel (1746-1813)
Metje died in 1773 in Fishkill, Dutchess Co., New York.
