In 1880, Gregor and Margarethe Galus were farming at Swan River Township in Morrison County, Minnesota. Margarethe, age 35, was a native of Poland while Gregor was 40 and a native of Prussia. They had 4 children living at home: Marie (15), Franziska (13), Johanna (5), Frantz (2) and infant Daniel. As only the younger two were born in the US, it is presumed they were married in Poland and emigrated sometime between 1875 and 1878. The 1895 State census shows them at the same location with two children born in the intervening years: Agnes (13) and Matheus (4). Both Margaret and Gregor now indicated they were natives of Germany.
