Lenhard, son of Johannes Kroos and Mareitje Beem, was baptized on 15 April 1759 in the Reformed Dutch Church of Kingston, New York. Witnesses were Andreas Kroos and Grietje Beem.[1]
During the Revolutionary War, he held the rank of sergeant in Philip Swart's Company in Coll. Snyder's Regiment of Ulster County Militia. Sergeant "Lenard Croose" appears on a pay record for 1781. On 20 January 1783 Sergeant Leonard Kroos was awarded a bounty of 15 pounds for frontier service. [2]
Leonard Kroos was named as a son in the will of Johannes Kroos of Kingston, County of Ulster, State of New York, made on 26 September 1804 and proved on 23 October 1804. Leonard was to receive the sum of one dollar, as was the decedent's daughter Annatie Winfield. Other heirs named in the will to receive larger shares of the estate were the decedent's wife Elizabeth, son daughters Polly Tillson and Elizabeth Wiest, and sons John Kroos and Bernice. [3]
