Biography

George was born on 27 May 1914 in Franklin, Sacramento Co., CA. He died on 6 Jun 2004 in Sacramento, Sacramento Co., CA.

1. Son of Walter August Kuhn and Mary Stewart. - Funeral services for Walter A. Kuhn, 74, a meat cutter in the Sacramento County Juvenile Center, will be held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday in the Land Park Chapel of Harry A. Nauman and Son. He died yesterday in his home at 2787 19th St. Kuhn, a native of Franklin and lifetime county resident, owned and operated Kuhn's Meat Market at 36th Street and McKinley Boulevard from 1926 to 1936 before he went to work for the county. He was a charter member of the Local 498 of the Butcher's Union. Survivors are his wife, mary C.; a son, George P., of Sacramento; a daughter, Mrs. Dorothy M. Fay of Simi, Ventura County; a sister, Mrs. Doris French, of Walnut Creek, Contra County, four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Burial will be in the Franklin Cemetery. (Jan 1967)

Kuhn Meat Company Opens Fourth Market George Kuhn, proprietor of the Kuhn Meat Company, this week announced the purchase of a fourth market to the company's chain - this one at Fourteenth and O Streets. He also operates markets at Thirty Sixth and E Streets, Tenth and H Streets and Thirty Third and J Streets and with John Byron operates the Rancho Meat Company at 2248 Stockton Boulevard. He has followed family tradition in the meat business, his grandfather, Peter Kuhn, having founded a wholesale and retail meat business in Franklin in 1888, his father, Walter Kuhn, having started a meat business here in 1931. 9. Festivity Given as Surprise Mr. and Mrs. Robert Spitzer celebrated their 30th wedding anniversary with friends and relatives at a surprise afternoon reception. The reception was hosted by the couple's four children, Barbara Haney, Carolyn Banis, Robert and David. Out-of-town guests included Mrs. E. S. Damon, mother of Mrs. Spitzer of Winnemucca. Mr. and Mrs. George Kuhn, and Mr. and Mrs. Herman Jones, all of Sacramento. Both Mr. and Mrs. Spitzer are native Nevadans and met in Winnemucca where Mrs. Spitzer was raised. The couple was married in Reno on July 30, 1939. (Nevada State Journal, Aug. 6, 1969, p. 26)

10. Obit: Passed away on June 6, 2004, from cancer. George was born just outside Sacramento in the little town of Franklin, CA on May 27, 1914, and early on moved with his parents Walter and Mary Kuhn to Sacramento where he attended school and graduated from Sacramento High School in 1932. On August 16, 1934, he married Marian Damon, also of Sacramento; they would have celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary this year. George is survived by his wife Marian and their four children Loretta Powell (Bud), Walter Kuhn (Kathy), Dale Kuhn (Margaret), and Paula Wold (Craig), 7 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren, 3 great-great-grandchildren, and sister Dorothy Dunn. Mr. Kuhn was a member of the Three Pillars Lodge F&AM, the Scottish Rite, and served as Potentate of the Ben Ali Shrine in 1975, and served many years as director of the Ben Ali Shrine Wrecking Crew. George was a taskmaster extraordinaire, and skillful entrepreneur. George and Marian enjoyed world traveling, but his favorite place to be was at their Lake Tahoe, CA, home where he kept very busy during the summers working on the grounds, enjoying the scenery from his porch, fishing off the end of his pier or in the mountain streams, entertaining family and friends, and driving his boat on the clear, blue Tahoe waters. George will be profoundly missed by his family and friends. Remembrances may be made in his memory to the Shriners Hospitals for Children, 2425 Stockton Boulevard, Sacramento, CA 95817. Family and friends are invited for visitation Thursday, June 10, 2004 from 1:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the GEORGE L. KLUMPP CHAPEL OF FLOWERS, Riverside Boulevard and Second Avenue. Burial will be private.
