Jack "The King" Kirby was born Jacob Kurtzberg on August 28, 1917, at 147 Essex Street on the Lower East Side of Manhattan in New York City, where he was raised. His parents, Rose (Bernstein) and Benjamin Kurtzberg, a garment factory worker, were Austrian-Jewish immigrants.
He was a renowned comic book artist who operated under the pen name, Jack Kirby.
