Sam was born in 1838 near Douglass, Angelina Republic of Texas. He was the youngest child of Abraham Kuykendall and Mary Lindley. He moved with his mother to Erath Co. TX. He was killed and scalped by the Indians in 1867 or 1868 in Comanche County Texas.

Killed by Comanche Indians on Rocky Creek at Carlton Texas in the summer of 1861. Reinterred in Barbee Cemetery in October of 1861.
