Abraham (la Matre) la Maitre was a son of a Huguenot emigrant (1540-1790).

Abraham, born at Midwout/Flatbush, in 1656, removed in his early manhood, with his brother Jacobus, to Kingston, Ulster County, N.Y. He there married, June 18, 1682, Celeste, daughter of Cornelius Vernoy, and had four children. He married a second wife, Elsie, daughter of Jurian Tappan, and Avidow of Hillebrant Lechier, about 1692, having five children. A magistrate and elder at Kingston, and prominent in public affairs, he closed a useful life November 20, 1734.
