Biography

François Laberge was a Canadian First Peoples and member of the Métis Nation.

François Laberge was born at Red River[1] in Mar 1837 to Métis parents Michel Laberge and Magdeleine Vivier[2].

François married Marguerite Bethelet dit Savoyard (daughter of Joseph Berthelet and Marguerite Dubois). Marguerite passed away in 1866.[3] François married Marguerite Gladu (daughter of Pierre Gladu and Nancy Dease) on 25 Feb 1868.[4]

At the time of the 1870 census, their family resided at St. Agathe, Manitoba.[1]

On 18 Jun 1885, Francois submitted a claim for Métis scrip.[2]

The children of François Laberge and Marguerite Berthelet include:
  1. Josephine Laberge b. 15 Nov 1861, m. Joseph Vital Laferte (son of Louis Laferte and Agathe Caron)[5][6]
  2. Roger Laberge b. 15 Aug 1864[7]
The children of François Laberge and Marguerite Gladu include:
  1. Rosalie Laberge b. 9 Jan 1869, m. Joseph Tourond (son of Jacques Tourond and Marie Courchene)[8]
  2. Marie Laberge b. 18 Jun 1871, m. Pierre Charette (son of Alexander Charette and Brigitte Cardinal)[9]

Research Notes

  • The information presented within this document is not accurate for this family; Records show that Marguerite Gladu is not the mother of Josephine or Roger.
