Biography

This profile is part of the Labossiere Name Study.

Marie Louise Labossiere was born on March 19, 1842 at Contrecoeur and was baptized there the next day. She is the eighth child and fifth daughter of Joseph Labossiere and Sophie Fiset.

1861 Canada census with three of their youngest daughters, Delphine, aged 14; Louise, aged 19 and Sophie, aged 16. Their oldest son, Louis, aged 30 is also living with them with along with his wife, Delia Giard, aged 25 and their four children, Adelina, Albina, Louis and Orlina. [1] There is also a Josepthe LaBossiere, aged 71, living with them. This is most likely the father, Joseph Labossiere's sister, Marie Josephte Labossiere who would be the correct age and was the widow of Étienne Berthiaume. She is listed as a widow.

It is not known when Louise Labossiere migrated to Masssachusetts, but she likely followed her older brother, Louis who moved his family to Hudson, MA before 1869. In any event, Louise Labossiere married Ludger Guerthin at Marlborough, Middlesex County, Massachusetts on August 22, 1869. He is a son of Joseph Guertin and Hedwige Quintal who married at St-Simon, Bagot [2] on July 01, 1845.

They are found together in the U.S. 1870 census at Hudson, MA. 1870 US Census [3] MA-Middlesex-Hudson P. 75 Lines 37-38 Jerry, (Ludger) Guertin, 22; Louise Guertin, (nee Labossiere), 26; No children yet. Living beside Ludger’s parents and another married brother, Alfred and his wife, Delphine Labossiere. Census date: Aug. 29, 1870.

Ludger and Louise lived in several different locations, all close to each other over the next 11 years. They had three daughters born at Hudson, but sadly the first died as an infant. By 1876, they had moved slightly to Marlborough where their fourth daughter was born, then by 1878, they have moved again to Southborough where their first son was born and he was incorrectly listed as female. A second son was born about 1880, in Massachusetts, but his birth record has not been found.

The family then made a change and moved to St. Pie, in the rural Municipality of Montcalm, Manitoba, Canada in the Pembina Valley. St. Pie no longer exists, but its' cemetery is still there and today, the location is near the community of Letelier, MB. Ludger and Louise are found at St. Pie in the 1881 Canada census. At least one more child, a daughter, Maria Rose Elizabeth, was born to them while they lived in St. Pie, but no birth record has been found. The family moved back to Southborough, MA by 1887 and sadly, the little girl died there on Nov. 27, 1887 at exactly 4 years, 7 months and 5 days of age, so her date of birth can be calculated. Her death record records that she was born at St. Pie, Manitoba. They appear to have gone back to Manitoba by 1901.
