Biography

This profile is part of the Labossiere Name Study.

Marie Adellina Labossiere was born July 8, 1845 [1] at Contrecoeur and was baptized the the same day. She was the eighth child and first and only known daughter of Francois Labossiere and Julie Gareau. This family had nine known children, eight boys and this one daughter and one little boy died as a three year old.

Marie Adellina was recorded by this name at her baptism, but at her marriage on September 11, 1866 at Sorel [3] [4]to Louis St. Arnaud, she was recorded as Melina Labossiere. Louis was a son of Joseph St-Arnaud and Marguerite Beland who had married at Berthierville on November 03, 1829. [5]

Marie Labossiere and Louis St-Arnaud had 13 known children, all born at Sorel between 1867 and 1891. Seven of their children died as infants, inlcluding the last one.

1881 Canada Census image e008147691 Quebec 61 Richelieu Sorel Div. 1 Page 36 Lines 8-14 Louis St-Arnaud, 40; Melvina St-Arnaud, 35, (nee Labossiere): 5 St-Arnaud children: Albert, 13; Marie L., 5; Alexius, 3; Mathilda, 2; Alexandria, 5 months: Melvina Labossiere's parents are also living with them: Francois Labossiere, 71 and Julie St-Onge, 74. [7] No census date on sheet.

1891 Canada Census image 30953_148218-00511 Quebec 180 Richelieu Sorel Page 7 Lines 9-17 Louis St-Arnaud, 50; Malvina, (nee Labossiere), 45; six St-Arnaud children: Albert, 23; Marie Louise, 16; Alexina, 14; Mathilda, 12; Ulric, 7; Pierre, 2 and Malvina's widowed father: Francois Labossiere 86. [8] Francois also died at Sorel on July 29, 1893 [9] and was buried there two days later.

Adellina Labossiere died in childbirth at Sorel on Sept. 27, 1891 and she was buried there two days later. [10] The male child also died at birth and mother and child were buried together. [11] Adellina was 46 years old.
