Martha Lackey was the daughter of Thomas Lackey and his wife Margaret Espey. Her mother died in 1846 when Martha was only two, and she was raised by her maternal aunt, Mary Espey Oates.
In both 1850[1] and 1860[2], Martha can be found in the census living with her Aunt Mary. After Martha's marriage in 1868, Mary Oates continued living with her niece and nephew-in-law.[3]
She married Eli Sellers in 1868. Eli was 25 years older than Martha.
After Eli's death in 1902, Martha lived with her oldest son Thomas's family until her death in 1910.
She is buried in Concord United Methodist Cemetery in Gaston County, NORTH Carolina.[6]
