Biography
Margery de Lacy (or Lascy) was the elder daughter of Isabel le Bigod, daughter of Hugh le Bigod, Earl of Norfolk, and Gilbert de Lacy, of Ewyas Lacy, Herefordshire, son and heir apparent of Walter de Lacy of Weobley, Herefordshire.[1][2] Her date of birth and birth place are uncertain.
Her brother Walter died between 1238 and 1241 and she was a co-heiress.[1] In 1241 she also became co-heiress of her grandfather "Gilbert: this brought her half the barony of Weobley in Herefordshire (which included lands in Shropshire, Gloucestershire and Worcestershire), half the palatinate of Meath in Ireland and the hereditary position of Constable of Ireland.[1]
Before 20 April 1242 she became the first wife of John de Verdun[1] They had the following children:
- Nicholas;[1][2]
- John;[1][2]
- Thebaud (or Tebaud), Knight, 1st Lord Verdun, born 1248, married Margery de Bohun;[1][2]
- Thomas.[1]
Margery died in 1256.[1] Before 1267 her husband remarried to Eleanor de Bohun.[1][2]
